The Welcome Return of a Bellefonte Summer Tradition
Summer is on the horizon and with it comes, happily, the Bellefonte Childrena s Fair. Since 1949, this fair has been a way for the families of Bellefonte to celebrate the end of the school year, and, following a two year hiatus, the Childrena s Fair is back and we couldna t be more excited.
As always, the Childrena s Fair will be happening on the first Saturday in June (June 4th this year) from 10am-3pm, at the intersection of Curtin and Armor Streets. The Fair happens rain or shine, so wea ll be keeping our fingers crossed for a beautiful day.
Visitors to the Fair will be treated to games and activities for kids of all ages. Past festivals have included face painting, bean bag toss, lollipop trees, flip a frog, bowling, and the list goes on and on. Bubbles and balloons will be filling the air, and wea re told by Fair co-chair Angela Dick that there will be booths from local groups like, a Zion Community Church, Discovery Space Center, Lincoln Caverns and Whisper Rocks, Centre County Library, Girl Scouts, Mount Nittany Health, YMCA, Sheriff’s Office, Watermarke Church, and more.a
As always, the Childrena s Fair will have all sorts of local entertainers to impress and delight. This yeara s entertainment includes the twirling of the American Raiders Baton Corp, the exotic animals of Exotic Eventures, some tunes from the Bellefonte Community Band, amazing routines from Hot Styles Dance Company, and a visit from local favorite Ike the Spike.
One of the best parts of any fair is the food, and you definitely wona t be disappointed in that department. At the Bellefonte Childrena s Fair, youa ll be able to munch on the delicious delights offered by Rosie’s Pierogies, Canyon Pizza, Brazilian Munchies, Nutty Bavarian, Millera s Shaved Ice, Kiwanis ice cream, and the Weinerwagon!
Therea s even something for parents with a green thumb. The Master Gardeners of Centre County will have plants for sale, many of them donated by Woodrings Floral Gardens and the Bellefonte Garden Club.
The Bellefonte Sunrise Rotary Club hosts this terrific event and all of the proceeds from it (wristbands and vendor fees) go back into the community, improving the childrena s facilities at Bellefontea s parks. Angela notes, a To date, the Bellefonte Sunrise Rotary Club has been able to help the Bellefonte Borough add playground equipment at the Teener League, Parkview Heights Park, [and] Governors Park, help the YMCA replace the slide at Keplera s Pool, and help with the installation of handicap accessible playground equipment at Governors Park.a
The Rotary Club is still looking for booths to participate in the Childrena s Fair. If youa re interested in being a vendor or providing an activity for the kids, you can fill out this linked form. The deadline to fill out the form and reserve a space is May 25th, so dona t delay. The Childrena s Fair is also looking for volunteers for the event, so feel free to get in touch with the Rotary Club through Facebook.
Ita s a wonderful kick-off to summer, ita s fun for the whole family, and it supports the community. What more could you ask for? Come out on Saturday, June 4th and join in the festivities!
