Downtown Bellefonte Comes Alive with Food, Music, and Fun

Weave come to the most beautiful part of the year here in Bellefonte and itas time to celebrate. This Friday, May 27th, kicks off the return of a great new tradition in our borough: Friday in the aFonte!

The final Fridays of May, June, July, September, and October will be special Fridays where Talleyrand Park will be host to live music from local musicians, delicious food from area vendors, and a host of fun things for families to see and do. The fun kicks off at 5pm and is open to everybody who wants to experience all Bellefonte has to offer.

Mayas Friday in the aFonte will feature a National and State Park theme. This yearas Bellefonte READS aOne Book, One Bellefontea programas selection is aYou Are Home: An Ode to the National Parksa by Evan Turk. There will be activities in the park by Bellefonte READS and Pennsylvania Master Naturalists for kids to learn more about parks, along with a family-friendly National Parks-themed trivia from 5-6pm at Talleyrand Tavern.

Local favorites Nothing Much will be taking the stage to play covers of some of your favorite songs. The band came together when lifelong friends Jay, a singer and guitar player, and Charlie, a drummer, met guitar player Kyle through Charlieas brother. Once the three of them started jamming together, they knew they wanted to start a band. It all came together in July 2018 when Kyle brought in his friend Andy to play the bass. The four men clicked as a group and Nothing Much was born.

The name came from a desire to be funny and understated. Kyle suggested aNothing Speciala and his wife Erin countered with aNothing Much.a Nothing Much is a terrific band that loves to get crowds dancing. Kyle noted that the band members ashare soft spots for Billy Joel’s aYou May Be Righta, Wild Cherryas aPlay that Funky Musica, and ZZ Topas aSharp Dressed Man.aa

This Friday in the aFonte will also feature Downtown Bellefonte Inc.as (DBI) annual awards for outstanding businesses and individuals in the area. At 6:30pm at the gazebo, DBI will announce the winners of Business of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, the Renaissance Award, the Award for Resilience, and the #LoveBFT Award presented by Bellefonte.com.

DBI will also be introducing their Discovery Passport, what DBI describes as a way for holders to achoose their own adventurea as they explore the businesses and activities of Bellefonte. According to DBI, this $10 passport grants you access to achallenges include Date Night activities, trivia and history-related activities, self-care or craft beverage tasks, as well as challenges that kids can participate in.a Photos of stamped booklets can be submitted to DBI all year long for the chance to win prizes!

Vendors like Sunset Slush, Bees Knees Coffee, Happy Wraps, Belle Mercantile, Fez Records, Federalist Studios, Sistersa Sunflowers, Prachias Bohemian Art, Rivera Artistry, Keystone Cultures, Blackbranch Farm and Pole Cat Hollow Farm will all be in attendance this Friday. Plus there will be free historical walking tours by Local Historia and even treats for your pets from Felicityas Pet Supplies.
