About William H. Wilkinson House
This charming brick-veneered and wood-shingled home on North Allegheny Street captures the spirit of Bellefonte’s building boom of the 1890s.
Built for William and Eveline Wilkinson, owners of China Hall—an exclusive downtown shop specializing in fine china and queensware—the home later became the residence of Robert and True Fisher. It stands as a testament to Bellefonte’s economic prosperity at the turn of the century.
The house was designed by Robert Cole, a local carpenter and superintendent of the Ardell Planing Mill. Cole eventually pursued formal architectural studies and went on to design at least ten prominent Victorian-era structures in Bellefonte, including the Bellefonte Hospital, Bellefonte High School, and the renovation of the Bellefonte Academy.
