About Simplicity: A Bed and Breakfast
The Italianate-style, Victorian house was built in 1870 for Rebecca Valentine Pugh, widow of the first president of Penn State, Evan Pugh. Step into the three-story home with comfortable elegance that has treasured antiques and original works of art. Historic splendor is tastefully combined with modern conveniences. The inviting atmosphere, with a sense of belonging, includes three cozy guest bedrooms, each with a private guest bathroom. The amenities, service, and food will make for an exceptional stay to capture our guests’ hearts.
Wake to coffee and teas and be tempted by scrumptious breakfasts, served each morning in the dining room or al fresco. Gourmet breakfasts are created with seasonal herbs and vegetables from the gardens. Meats, dairy, bread, and produce are purchased locally for a farm-to-table experience, supporting our community. Marianne often says that it’s a treat to watch strangers become friends while enjoying breakfast and conversation around her great-great-grandfather's table!
Unplug and unwind on the back porch or patio! The variety of birds and butterflies, and colors and fragrances from the perennial gardens will help you to relax! Eat ripe grapes while you find tranquility reading on the swing or rockers!
We are grateful for our returning guests and love to welcome new guests to our family, too! We are also happy to accommodate you with special packages and events.
Simplicity: A bed and breakfast is nestled in Bellefonte’s charming historic district and within walking distance to downtown, which is not to be missed! You’ll find quaint shops and unique galleries, the American Philatelic Society world headquarters, and Talleyrand Park, along with restaurants and drinkeries! Bellefonte is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is home to seven governors.
Relish in nature; fly fishing and kayaking in Spring Creek, known for Olympic training, hiking Mount Nittany, or birding at Bald Eagle State Park. And Penn State’s University Park Campus, State College, and Boalsburg are a short drive! We are just minutes away from Interstates 80 and 99 and the University Park Airport.
Owner and Innkeeper, Marianne, is a ninth-generation in Centre County, was born and raised in Bellefonte, and loves to support her local community. Her passions include cooking, gardening, traveling, exercising, and attending cultural events, and she has strong faith. She is a Penn State alumna and served as President of the Graduate School Alumni Society Board of Directors and on the College of Education Alumni Society Board of Directors and Alumni Council.
