About Reynolds Mansion / Reynolds Mansion Bed and Breakfast
Year Established: 1883
This opulent mansion, now a nationally acclaimed bed and breakfast, was originally built by Major William Reynolds, founder of the Reynolds Bank and a leading figure in Bellefonte’s financial history.
At the forefront of innovation for its time, the mansion featured a central heating system supported by fireplaces in the basement—a rare luxury in the 19th century. The home was later occupied by Colonel W. Fred Reynolds, who played a key role in bringing the Diamond Match Company to Bellefonte, marking an important chapter in the town’s industrial development.
After a period of use as a church, the mansion was lovingly restored and now operates as a gracious, fully restored Bed and Breakfast, recognized by the Select Registry of Distinguished Inns of North America as one of the best B&Bs near a university—a nod to its hospitality and historic charm.
