About Dr. Robert L. Dartt House
Year Established: 1879
This beautifully ornate Italianate home was built in 1879 by Dr. Dartt for his wife, Lydia Gregg Dartt, the great-granddaughter of U.S. Senator Andrew Gregg.
Dr. Dartt began practicing medicine in Bellefonte in 1875 alongside his uncle, Dr. Tipple, one of the nation's leading homeopathic physicians. He later partnered with Dr. Melvin Locke, another prominent local doctor.
The recently restored residence retains many of its original 19th-century features, including dramatic walnut doors, colorful stained-glass windows, 11-foot ceilings, original parquet floors, and an elegant circular staircase offering a view through the full height of the home. Floor-to-ceiling china and linen closets further highlight the home's craftsmanship and historic charm.
