Saving the Jabco Building649 viewsI wanted to portray the efforts of the firefighters to save what they could. These two men were wetting down the Jabco building (an old-fashion country store) next door to the Bush House. They started watering it a 8 am when embers hit the roof and it started smoldering. The water was pumped from the old canal raceway. Thanks to their efforts, the Bush House was the only building we lost. Photo by Joanne Tosti-Vasey.

Panoramic view: The day after the fire672 viewsBecause of fear of collapse, the fire department brought in a wrecker on Wednesday night and knocked down the 4-story corner that remained standing. This panoramic view taken at 11 am the next day shows the results of what is left of the Bush House from the Spring Creek side. Picture taken by Joanne Tosti-Vasey from bridge on Water Street

Talleyrand Park, Lincoln Memorial314 viewsThis is the George Gray Barnard memorial, with a replica of a Lincoln bust designed by Barnard as part of a full-sized bronze now standing in Cincinnatti. Barnard was born in Bellefonte in 1863, and the memorial garden was a logical spot for a planting of more than 1,000 daffodils. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Grey_Barnard

First Daffodils of 2005, Talleyrand Park530 viewsBellefonte in Bloom: Project Daffodil is a joint project of the Bellefonte Garden Club and the Bellefonte Intervalley Area Chamber of Commerce. A totally volunteer effort, the project plans to obtain funding for, and then plant, 30,000 bulbs per year for 5 years between I99 and I80. Project Daffodil's goals include creating a community-wide -- and, indeed, county-wide-- beautification effort, and to also create a mass of blooms that will total more than 1 million within a few years, especially if the entire community catches the spirit and begins planting even more on their own. If you would like to volunteer to help, or would like to make a donation to support the effort, call the Chamber office at 814-355-2917 or the project organizers, Doug and Wilda Stanfield, at 814-353-1456.
