Project Daffodil

DSCN2017_1.2.jpgProject Daffodil has been active since 2003, and the original goal of the committee of seven volunteers who spearheaded the effort was to plant 100,000 daffodils over five year. In that time, and with the help of hundreds of other volunteers and grants from the county tourism tax administered by the County Commissioners and the Convention and Visitors Center, the committee planted or distributed 111,000 daffodil bulbs in and around Bellefonte. Nearly 27,000 went into Talleyrand Park alone.

The original committment is fulfilled, now it is time for each of us to continue planting daffodils in the fall to keep the bloom growing. A tourist attraction in the spring, the Daffodil Drive will take visitors from State College to Bellefonte to view 200,000 blooms planted in Bellefonte and along the roads leading to State College where another 100,000 blooms adorn the Penn State campus.

Download the Daffodil Drive brochure here (PDF) and take a drive through the countryside, to the Penn State campus and into Bellefonte on a spring afternoon. Bring the kids and let them play in Talleyrand Park by the waterfall, and then grab a bite at the cafe and wander the historic downtown. Once you see the show, you'll be sorely tempted to plant a few daffodils yourself (we hope).
