Bonfatto’s is a third generation 100 year old family business. Guy and Pauline Bonfatto started it all on August 15, 1919 in downtown Bellefonte as a grocery and home delivery business. In 1958 John Bonfatto invented our famous Bonanza Sub Sandwich, which today is still a mainstay of the business. After a tragic car accident in January 1960, Francis and John Bonfatto (brothers), helped their mother Pauline with the day to day operation of the business and eventually took over the operation and added take-out and sit-down meals as well as a full-service bar. In 1990, grandson David Letterman (son of Rose Bonfatto) joined the business. In 1999 David and his Wife Sherri bought the business and a year later opened a full-service 140 seat restaurant and lounge in November 2000. David had always envisioned a smaller Italian Market. The two renovated a historical building and moved their business back downtown Bellefonte as Bonfatto’s Italian Market and Corner Cafe.
