Completed in 1894, this property was built by Joseph Montgomery, as a family home for his parents and siblings, prior to founding the Pennsylvania Match Factory in 1899 with partners Fountain Crider and W. Fred Reynolds. The demand for diversification in Bellefonte industry had begun, with two planning mills and other factories transitioning to produce end products rather than just planed lumber. New production machinery brought in by a competitor illustrated how efficient the production of matches could be. This innovation was particularly important, given the nearly endless lumber resources surrounding Bellefonte. The meticulously preserved home is still graced with the stained glass windows and gleaming woodwork that was installed nearly 125 years ago.
