Bellefonte was home to 12 judges over the years and many of those prominent citizens lived on both East and West Linn Street. The Judge Furst House was occupied by Judge Austin Furst from 1884 a 1894 and then by Judge James Furst, from 1927 a 1928. The residence stayed in the extended family until 1979, a 112-year tenure of one family, which is very unusual in the historic mansions of Bellefonte. The Federal period house was built by local contractor Charles McCafferty and sold to A.C. Furst for $8,000. The family added a large rear section to house their growing family, which has now been converted into a two story apartment and a separate apartment on the third floor.
