In early 1890, Sigismund Joseph, Emil Joseph, and Herman Holz, purchased a large lot on East Curtin Street, while they still operated a jewelry story in the McBride building, and ultimately built three homes, before going on to become the strongest mercantile partnerships in Bellefonte. In addition to these three structures, they were responsible for construction of at least one atenanta house in Bellefonte. By 1891, the homes were all occupied by Emil Joseph, listed as a merchant, and attorneyas S. D. Ray, and J. C. Meyer. The Joseph brothers were also involved in the construction of a commercial building to house their own company. Emil Joseph also owned a home at the corner of Howard and Spring Streets, and a home on Allegheny Street.
