James T. Hale House

James Tracy Hale, who came to Bellefonte to study law with his uncle, later married Jane Houston, daughter of a Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice. He served as a US Representative from Pennsylvania as a Republican in the 36th and 37th Congresses and as an Independent in the 38th Con-gress, spanning the years, 1859-1865. He also served as President Judge of both Clinton and Clearfield counties and practiced as an attorney in Bellefonte. In addition to his illustrious law and Congressional career, Hale was involved in both the timber and railroad industries, and a prominent member of the Bellefonte community.
