Hayes-Hicks House

Several homes on East Linn Street, including the one at 163 were constructed by Morris Cowdrick as investments for Dr. Thomas Hayes, a prominent Bellefonte physician who served as founding member and President of the Centre County Medical Society and Vice President of the Pennsylvania State Medical Society. He was also the author of the aMedical History of Centre County. This particular property was sold to local merchant Harry Hicks in 1876 and repurchased by Dr. Hayes in 1879, when Hicks ran into financial trouble. The home was later purchased by W. L. Daggett, who was the manager/proprietor of the Bush House, who made changes in the front porch, a change that makes the property appear very different from its sister houses.
