Harmony Forge, another of the early iron forges in Centre County, ultimately operated longer than all of the other forges. Beginning in 1795, the iron works at Harmony Forge, eventually known as the Milesburg Iron Works, was built on property owned by Col. Samuel Miles. Construction was overseen by ironmaster John Dunlop and the firm of Miles, Patton and Miles. During the 19th century, the operation grew and diversified, to include a blast furnace, charcoal forge, puddling-mill, rolling-mill and wire-mill, enabling the company to sustain operations until
the early 1900s.
Constructed by Joseph Miles in 1818, Harmony Forge Mansion now operates as a Bed and Breakfast, enabling visitors to experience an ironmasters property first hand, along with the amenities that prosperity in the iron industry allowed the family to afford. Over its long history, as home to a distinguished succession of iron-masters and their managers, the Mansion served as the site of important business meetings and social gatherings.
