When this beautiful ornamented Eastlake style structure was constructed in 1857 for pharmacist F. Potts Green who dispensed medications in the Brockerhoff Hotel, it stood alone in the middle of an open field. Since then, a number of gracious and ornate homes have been built around the property, described as aAn Ornamented Cottage.a The property was illustrated in the publication aVictorian Buildingsa written by Philadelphia based architect Samuel Sloan, who designed a number of other ornate buildings in neighboring Williamsport and Lock Haven. The elegant iron fence is reminiscent of the decorative iron artifacts produced by local ironmasters that can still be found throughout Bellefonte today. The elaborate decorative trim which covers the building has survived through the centuries.
