The land on which the home at 329 East Linn Street is located was owned by Dr. Thomas R. Hayes, one of the many investments he made along the street. Two years after she married Edward Randolf Chambers, a local criminal attorney, Hayes sold the property to Mary Pennypacker Worth Chambers, to begin construction on the house. The architecture is considered to be the only extant example of an Italianate Villa adaptation of a Victorian building in Bellefonte. Mr. Chambers continued to practice law in Bellefonte until he was appointed to a position in the auditor generalas office in 1899. In 1903, Pennsylvania Governor Samuel W. Pennypacker made Chambers a member of his military staff with the rank of Colonel.
