Dr. Dratt began practicing medicine in Bellefonte in 1875 with his uncle Dr. Tipple, who was the leading homeopathic physician in the country. He built this beautifully ornate Italianate residence in 1879 for his wife Lydia, the great granddaughter of Senator Andrew Gregg. He later set up practice with Dr. Melvin Locke, another well known Bellefonte physician. The recently refurbished home still boasts dramatic walnut doors, stained glass windows, 11-foot ceilings and floor to ceiling, wall to wall china and linen closets, original parquet floors and the original circular staircase from which the entire height of the building can be viewed.
