Dr. Joseph Ward Home

Going against the trend to convert Bellefonteas home to apartments when they passed out of the original family ownership, the property at 143 East Curtin has been restored to a single family home. Dr. Joseph E. Ward studied at Baltimore Dental College, before returning to Bellefonte, to become one of Bellefonte’s leading dentists. Very active in the community, he was a member of the Bellefonte School Board and steward of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The original redwood doors and woodwork inside the house has been restored and period appropriate parquet floors reinstalled. Signed plasterwork, as was the custom of the day, confirm the construction date of house as 1897.
