Cold Stream Furnace became the only iron furnace established in the Philipsburg area when founder Henry Philips began furnace operation soon after arriving in the area from England. Three years later, his brother James took over the operation and ran it until 1817, when Cold Stream went out of blast. The mansion at Cold Stream is known as Moshannon Hall or Halehurst. Built in 1813, the original house was a 2 A1/2 story Georgian building with a gabled roof. It was later modified to a 3 A1/2 story 7 bay structure with a gambrel roof.
