Because of its early date of construction, the residence at 129 East Linn may have served as a prototype for the many other Folk Victorian style homes built in Bellefonte by Charles McCafferty, who for 20 years, served as the major Victorian builder in town. The home was originally begun by J. B. Butts, but still an unfinished house frame, when purchased by Charles McCafferty in 1870. Banker William F. Reynolds, who merged the Reynolds Bank with the Jackson Crider Bank to become the Bellefonte Trust Company, purchased the property from McCafferty in 1873, a decade before McCafferty built the Reynolds Mansion on West Linn Street for Reynolds.
