The 1858 Pennsylvania farmhouse structure at this location was the birthplace of American sculptor and son of a local Presbyterian minister, George Grey Barnard (1863-1938). Bernardas works include groups of statuary that flank the main entrance of the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building in Harrisburg and a Statue of Abraham Lincoln. In addition to his own creative work, Bernard collected the medieval sculpture which formed the nucleus of the collection of The Cloisters, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The George Grey Barnard Sculpture Garden in Talleyrand Park contains a bust of Lincoln cast from the same mold as the original in 1917. Bernardas family home is clad with wooden siding, scored to represent masonry blocks with quoined corners.
