The first hospital in Bellefonte was incorporated by a handful of successful, local physicians, including Dr. James Siebert and Dr. Thomas Hayes, the home of which were located earlier on this tour. The facility at 113 South Spring Street was begun with 6 beds in 1902. After more than 100 years and a few name changes, the hospital has grown into the state-of-the-art Mount Nittany Medical Center, which focuses on a singular mission of providing superior care to the communities it serves. The facility in Bellefonte evolved into the Willowbank branch of Mount Nittany, which is a leader in healthcare, with a 260-bed acute care facility offering medical, surgical, diagnostic and community services. Both the property and the carriage house located directly behind the original hospital, have been restored.
