The property at 352 East Curtin and the one next door were built as rental units, by Ada and Augusta Hoover, who owned a coal company. When the homes were completed, the Hoovers were still living in a larger home in Bellefonteas North Ward. The first occupants were listed as Editor, George R. Bible and D. A. Etters, a local teacher. Milton Furey, author of aPast and Present of Clinton Countya published in 1892, also lived in the property. By 1890, the Hooveras had moved to the matching property at 350 East Curtin. The properties are architecturally significant because they represent a trend away from the Italianate detailing so popular in Bellefonte to the Queen Anne characteristics that would become so prominent in the finely detailed homes built between 1890 and the turn of the century.
