Spring in Bellefonte brings a beloved tradition: the Bellefonte Easter Egg Hunt, a free, community-driven event that has been delighting local families for 17 years. This year’s hunt is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2026 with sponsor activities and the Easter Bunny arrival beginning at 1 PM and the egg hunt promptly kicking off at 2:00 PM.

With 15,000 candy-filled eggs hidden throughout the park, the event is free to all children 12 and under, with designated age groups and a special needs area to ensure everyone can participate. Hidden among the eggs are extra-special prize coupons, which can be redeemed at the Bunny Shack for Easter baskets, a bicycle, and other surprises.

    A Community Tradition

The local clubs, churches, banks, businesses, our fire companies and many volunteers supply the candy-filled plastic eggs, their time, goods and services. There is no charge and no registration, and it will be held snow, rain or shine.

Students who need to complete community service hours for school are encouraged to volunteer and parents are welcome also.  To donate, set up an activity or for more information, contact Mary McMurtrie at 814-574-3240 or email her at marym9109@yahoo.com.  Please sign-up by March 25 for our special needs area at egghuntbellefonte23@gmail.com so we may accommodate their needs.

For those planning to attend, here are a few key tips:

    • Arrive early. Parking fills up quickly, and sponsor activities run from 1-2 p.m. before the eggs are gathered in a matter of minutes.
    • Parents must remain on the sidewalks. The event is all about letting the kids take the lead.
    • Check your eggs! Special prize coupons are hidden inside some eggs, and winners should visit the Bunny Shack to claim their prize.
    • Recycle your eggs. Drop used plastic eggs in the designated bins after the hunt.
    • There is no registration required, and the event will take place rain, snow, or shine.
    • Families with children who need accommodations are encouraged to sign up for the special needs area by April 1 by emailing egghuntbellefonte23@gmail.com
