The Bellefonte Garden Club announces: Spring Growing Talks

The Bellefonte Garden Club's Spring Growing Talks series features presentations on Edible Landscaping, Veggie Gardening Basics and Creating Gorgeous Container Plantings, all held at the main Centre County Library Historical Museum, 203 N. Allegheny Street in Bellefonte

Edibles in the Landscape, Tuesday, March 16, 6:30 pm, Learn all about plants like herbs, edible flowers, berry-producing shrubs and fruit trees that are both beautiful and provide great things to eat, right in your own backyard! Learn how to get started with edibles in the landscape with information on the best varieties, where to find them and how to grow them at this Bellefonte Garden Club program. Presenters: Jackie Bonomo, Tait Farm Foods and Effie Zuck, Fox Hill Gardens

Veggie Gardening Basics, Tuesday, April 20, 6:30 pm, Ready to grow your first vegetable garden or learn some new tips? Bill Lamont, the veggie guru from Penn State Cooperative Extension, will cover the basics of planning, planting, growing and harvesting a vegetable garden for beginners. At this Bellefonte Garden Club program, learn how to make veggie gardening manageable through the summer so you can enjoy fresh veggies right out of the backyard! Creating Gorgeous Container Plantings, Tuesday, May 18, 6:30 pm, Beautiful planters full of gorgeous color and texture are easy to do for your porch or deck, by following a few basic growing and design rules. The folks at Patchwork Farms, who grow thousands of flowering plants and veggie seedlings every spring and design amazing container plantings, will walk us through the basics in this Bellefonte Garden Club program. Presenter: Patchwork Farms

All workshops are free and open to the public. All are held at the Centre County Library's Historic Museum, 203 N. Allegheny St. RSVP is required. Call the Library at 355-1516, ext. 204.

June 5, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., planting activity for kids at the Bellefonte Children's Fair
June 15, 6:30 p.m., Tour of the Penn State Arboretum
July 20 - 6:30 p.m., Leaf sand-casting workshop (open to the public). Please call 353-1102 to RSVP and for directions to Cheryl's. Cost is $5 for materials. Bring any leaves you would like to cast in cement. Members, bring a dessert to share.
August 17 - 6:30 p.m., Garden party/tour in a member's garden - potluck. Bring your spouse or a guest.
August 13-14 - Arts and Crafts Fair. Garden Club raffle items will be on sale at the HBI booth.
September 21 - Program to be determined
October 19 - Forcing and planting bulbs
November 16 - Making Holiday Centerpieces
December - Holiday luncheon
